Orthodontics is aimed to achieve health and balance of the jaws and teeth in function and esthetics harmony, it goes way beyond straight teeth and a beautiful smile.
Orthodontic treatment involves several aspects of your health and well-being including facial balance and harmony as well as speech, mastication (Chewing) and neuromuscular balance in the head and neck area and also self-confidence and feeling good about your smile.
For most people, achieving a healthy, beautiful smile is the reason for seeking orthodontic care. If you're self-conscious about your smile, not sure if you need extractions or got scared away from orthodontic treatment since you have been told that jaw surgery or extractions is your only choice, then you must schedule an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Majd. You will be happy to know you have other options and we have delivered great results for hundreds of other patients with similar cases. Dr. Majd is happy to explain your options and why she recommends one as the better option before you begin your treatment and as your orthodontic treatment progresses through different stages.
When having your initial exam with us, Dr. Majd will discuss your unique orthodontic case and how we can achieve the best results for your teeth and facial esthetics. In some cases, correction of the position of the teeth may be necessary to improve the appearance and harmony of the face and lips, even though the teeth may seem straight. For others, the teeth may be crowded and extraction of some teeth may be considered as an option but if it will not work well for the patient's facial and smile features, we will work to design a treatment plan to address teeth crowding and not affect the facial beauty of our patients.
Dr. Majd has built a reputation in " diagnosis and treating the face" of her patients, not just the teeth. We are excited to share with you some of our special cases where the patients had been told they need jaw surgery or extraction of the permanent teeth, otherwise no other option to improve their teeth and smile. We were able to achieve satisfactory results and significant improvements in the health and function of these patients (for some right in time for their wedding!!) with minimally invasive orthodontics using a creative and "outside the box" approach designed by Dr. Majd.
When your treatment is complete, you will have the smile you've always dreamed of and the confidence to show it off! We also want you to feel comfortable and confident throughout your entire orthodontic experience, and our practice is dedicated to making it happen.
HOW ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT WORKS
Orthodontic treatment involves using gentle and constant forces engineered and designed with precision to move the teeth and modify the jaw growth in growing individuals. Orthodontists use different techniques and appliances, braces are the most common type of orthodontic appliances and can be made out of metal, ceramic, or plastic. All kinds of braces work the same way in a general term, the advantage of clear (ceramic braces) is that they look better and don’t have the metallic look of traditional braces. They are also more expensive due to their manufacturing process and cost.
Self-ligating braces like Damon and Speed System are a subcategory of traditional braces and don’t require elastic ties to hold the wire in place. This is claimed to be moving the teeth faster and make the treatment time shorter. The jury is still out on this claim and there is not a lot of supportive evidence for available for this claim.
At Fullerton Orthodontics, Dr. Majd and our team are seekers and advocates of newest techniques and technology but we are also committed to the evidence-based technology. We are pleased to offer all of the available choices and latest types of braces and treatment techniques including Damon, Damon Clear, Clarity and other types of braces and devices including Acceledent, Propel and other techniques such as TADS that can shorten treatment time or achieve better results.
There are other appliances used for orthodontic treatment including removable (those that can be removed by the patient) or fixed appliances (that are fixed to the the teeth and can’t be removed by the patient). Orthopedic appliances that are used for correction of skeletal, facial and jaw problems, are a significant part of orthodontics. The infamous “Headgear” is a time tested and well known appliance that even though it has received a lot of negative publicity, still does offer great applications to correct “overbite” and protruding teeth problems that otherwise can only be achieved with jaw surgery.
DURATION OF TREATMENT
Orthodontic treatment time can range between few months to several years depending on multiple factors including age, treatment method, and how minor or severe your case is. A significant part of the length and success of your treatment depends on you! The more involved and diligent you are in doing your part, the more efficient your treatment will be. For children, receiving interceptive or early treatment can also help provide a quicker treatment time that can eliminate or shorten the orthodontic treatment they need in future.
The average orthodontic treatment time is between 18 to 30 months. At Fullerton orthodontics, we have different options available to our patients to shorten treatment time. In addition to utilizing the latest techniques and appliances for the most efficient treatment, we offer Acceledent, Propel, surgically assisted orthodontics (Wilcodontics) as well as Damon and other self- ligating brackets to achieve ideal results in shortest time possible.
Before beginning your orthodontic care, Dr. Majd will discuss all of your options and provide an estimate for how long your full treatment may take. Call us at (714) 871-8445 or email us to schedule an appointment and learn more about orthodontics and how it can help you achieve your dream smile.
